ABDA Transfurniture design challenge

We were inspired by our own experiences within university dorm life. There is minimal living space, occupied by furniture that often served little purpose. Thus we decided to create a single piece of furniture, a desk that accomplished multiple objectives.

Our desk had several functions. Such as a rotating leg rest/seat, a shelf which doubles as extra desk space, and cabinets for storage.

We built our project in Autodesk Inventor utilizing various parts and assemblies to ultimately craft our desk.

As our desk had many moving parts we found difficulty in constraining each of the parts properly as they often needed to rotate or translate a certain amount, this was hard to work around within an assembly with multiples parts and constraints.

We are particularly proud of how mobile and realistic the movements of our functions are.

Ultimately, we learned how to remain patient and focused under pressure while making corrections on the fly without completely remodeling certain parts.

We hope to properly publish and pitch our idea to those who are interested in manufacturing it.
