Inspiration

Atomic Habits, by James Clear

What it does

This website assists users in forming systems to develop identity-based habits. Users will not just identify the habit/skill they want to practice, but also why and how they want to implement it. Using ideas from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, we created an easy-to-follow system of how to integrate this habit into your life, making it part of your identity.

How we built it

Lots of brainstorming, and then cutting ideas to come up with minimum viable product. Mocked up it up in Figma and set-up design parameters using Sass. Then implemented front enusing Nextjs bundled with React. Used mongoDB to build backend.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues with connecting the front and back ends of our web application. It was also a challenge learning how to create and implement user authentification.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to overcome the challenges we faced. For most of our team, this was our first hackathon and, although we weren't able to implement all our ideas, we feel proud that we completed the basis of your goals and created a product we can continue to improve on.

What we learned

Throughout this weekend we became increasingly aware of the efforts needed to build and ship a project. We also gained experience with unfamiliar technology and valuable knowledge of project management.

What's next for AccountabiliBuddy

We'd like to improve upon this idea by creating a mobile app version of the website that uses push notifications to reach the user on a more personal level. We also want to add more features, like a reward system for when users reach milestones, where they receive virtual currency that can be used for in-app purchases. We also would like to develop more of a community by featuring suggested groups of people with similar goals and allowing users to share habit/hobby sets with friends.
