Inspiration
About twenty years ago, I wrote the lyrics for a song called "Ab Tum Ho," with the idea of one day using it in a film. Life got busy, and like many creative ideas, it was filed away and eventually forgotten. It wasn't a project I was actively working on for two decades, but rather a dormant idea waiting for a spark. That spark came when I started exploring AI vision tools. It felt like a whole new world of creative possibilities had opened up, and I realized I could finally bring old, forgotten projects like this one to life. The song, inspired by the romantic nostalgia of a Mumbai monsoon, felt like the perfect story to tell with this new technology.
What it does
"Ab Tum Ho" is a music video that brings those twenty-year-old lyrics to life. It tells a timeless story about love, showing how different couples—from the passionate young to the gracefully old—find shelter and connection in each other amidst a rain-soaked city. More than just a video, it serves as a proof-of-concept for how AI can be used as a serious filmmaking tool to create a cinematic, emotionally resonant narrative from a simple, human idea.
How we built it
As the director and "AI Prompt Engineer," my process was a blend of traditional storytelling and modern technology. I started with the original lyrics and translated each line into a detailed visual prompt. I guided the AI to generate everything from the specific mood of the glistening city streets to the subtle, authentic emotions on the characters' faces. Each shot was "directed" through text, where I controlled the composition, lighting, and "camera" angles. The final video was pieced together from these AI-generated clips, edited to match the rhythm and soul of the song.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was maintaining visual consistency. Getting the same characters to look right from different angles was a constant struggle. Another hurdle was bridging the gap between a technically perfect image and a truly emotional one. The AI would often generate stunningly beautiful shots that felt vacant or soulless. The real work was in refining the prompts and editing the footage to imbue the digital creations with the genuine feeling of the original song.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm incredibly proud of resurrecting a creative idea that I had completely forgotten about for two decades. To see it come to life in a way that is more beautiful than I could have imagined back then is a huge accomplishment. This project proves that AI can be a powerful partner for an artist, not just a gimmick. "Ab Tum Ho" is one of the first of my old and new projects to be completed this way, and it marks the beginning of a new creative chapter for me.
What we learned
This project taught me that technology can be a bridge to our own forgotten creativity. It proved that AI is a powerful instrument, but the artist is still the conductor; it visualizes the emotion you feed into it, but it can't create that emotion on its own. The future of filmmaking, for me, is not about man versus machine, but man with machine. A good story is still the most important thing, and sometimes, it just has to wait for the right tools to come along.
What's next for Ab Tum Ho (Official Music Video)
The next step is to share "Ab Tum Ho" with the world by submitting it to festivals and competitions like the Chroma Awards that celebrate innovation in this space. I want to see how a story generated with AI connects with a wider audience. The lessons learned here are already being applied to my next projects, as I continue to dig into my archives and bring more old and new stories to life. This is just the beginning.
