Aasha Nepal first came into the idea through Incubate Nepal, an initiative from Harvard and MIT Alums. There, to understand the needs of individuals, we surveyed 70+ schools and covered 50+ districts of our country. We analyzed the obtained data and found out that due to a lack of proper information regarding professional psychologists, many people were relying on faith healers to seek mental health assistance. Thus, we set a goal to create a mental health support system platform to provide solutions to this problem. And I built the Aasha Nepal Website.
It acts as a bridge between locals and therapists with services like a Database of professional psychologists with a price range and location tracking system.
With the data I obtained from the hospitals about the therapists, I encoded them in the website using languages such as JavaScript using Reactjs Framework.
It was quite challenging to get the authentic information of the therapists from the hospitals and online platforms, but with the help of Ojaswi Pandey, a Data Scientist this part was cleared out as well.
I'm proud of myself firstly for making myself know about the stigmatization surrounding Mental Illness. Being part of a community, a city, and a country, doing something in my own way to help the community is something I'm super proud of.
I mainly learned about how Mental Health is important in someone's life. One may say it is just a phase, but it is not a phase "it is a disease" and we must move forward to remove the stigma around mental health and help in its awareness.
Aasha Nepal will work more to make the website more accessible and add additional features such as Motivational sliders, Podcasts, and transformational stories which will surely boast people to seek out for help if required.
