AarogyaVaani – AI-Powered Rural Health Triage
AarogyaVaani is an AI-powered triage system built to improve healthcare access in rural India. Today, patients in clinics often wait too long because staff spend valuable time on manual intake, causing delays for those in critical condition. AarogyaVaani uses agentic AI to instantly analyze symptoms, classify urgency, and help healthcare workers prioritize patients.
Workflow
- Patient or health worker reports symptoms via voice or text in local languages.
- The AI agent (IBM Granite LLM) analyzes the input and classifies cases as critical, moderate, or routine.
- The system (IBM ADK) automates queue management, triggers real-time alerts for emergencies, and generates preliminary health records.
- Doctors and nurses receive clear, prioritized patient data for faster decision-making.
Tech + Approach
We built the prototype using React + Express with a simple keyword-based classifier for triage. The system is designed to scale with IBM Granite models for deeper analysis and the Agent Development Kit (ADK) for automated workflows. It supports multilingual inputs and is optimized for low-bandwidth rural deployment.
Why it matters
In rural India, delays in care can mean the difference between life and death. This project tackles a real healthcare gap in rural India. AarogyaVaani aims to:
- Reduce waiting times for critical patients
- Improve emergency response and resource allocation
- Deliver equitable healthcare access to underserved communities
