Inspiration

Our inspiration for this came from many companies' initiatives that revolve around reducing carbon emissions and encouraging more green behavior among consumers (American Airlines, etc.). We wanted to encourage consumers to interact more with nature and appreciate their surroundings while also allowing them to meet their travel goals.

What it does

The app allows users to put in their preferences for environment, climate, and activities they enjoy on their travels. It will then feed that information to an AI algorithm that recommends national parks that best suit their preferences. This encourages them to partake in outdoorsy, physical activity and appreciate nature a little more while still meeting their travel goals.

How we built it

We built this app using React Native and JSX in the front end using API integration, Python, and Node.js in the back end.

Challenges we ran into

It definitely was a challenge to curate the information about national parks and program the recommendation program using artificial intelligence while seamlessly integrating that into our front end UI design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of coming together as a team and being able to create a functional product within the time limit.

What we learned

We learned that we should strictly designate time for each segment of our project and make sure to finish each part before moving on to the next. Otherwise, we will get held up on individual parts. We also learned how to use React Native and JSX, as it was our first time using the software.
