Inspiration
Autistic and neuro-divergent people can have difficulties communication under breakdowns, high-stress, or when experiencing sensory overloads. Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) helps give those people the tool they need to make sure their needs are met during these moments.
What it does
It doubles as a text-to-speech user-interface and a button-to-speech interface which can be customized to give as much choice or as little choice as needed for those who need a larger vocabulary or a smaller one with common phrases to help combat decision-paralysis.
How we built it
The program is built on .Net Maui so it can run on Andriod, IOS, Mac, and Desktop. It uses the .Net speech-to-text functions and it uses AcrylicView Maui for blurring visual effects.
Challenges we ran into
Time constraints was a challenge, the main functionality of the app was finished, but the customization page is underdeveloped because I didn't have enough time to work on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The main functionality of the app works, I was able to dynamically load and unload data which allows for the saving of settings and customization of the main buttons page.
What we learned
I learned a bit more about design and styles to change the appearance of my app.
What's next for AAC Candlelight
