Inspiration Travel is broken for people with disabilities. Finding reliable accessibility information is often a frustrating, fragmented mess. A11y Go was born from a simple belief: everyone deserves the joy and enrichment of travel. We’re here to fix the planning process, empowering people to explore the world with confidence and dignity.
How We Built It We built A11y Go with a user-first obsession. The entire process was grounded in co-design, meaning we worked directly with the disability community to shape a tool that solves real-world problems. We focused on creating a clean, high-contrast interface that adheres to WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and used a modern, scalable technology stack to ensure the app is both fast and reliable. Every feature was prototyped and tested to ensure it was truly intuitive.
Challenges We Faced Our biggest challenge has been sourcing reliable data. The travel industry lacks a standard for what "accessible" means, leading to vague or inaccurate information. To solve this, we are building a multi-layered verification system that combines provider partnerships with community-driven feedback to create a database our users can finally trust.
What We Learned The most critical lesson was that we must build with the community, not just for them. We learned that "accessibility" is not a monolith; it is a diverse spectrum of individual needs where the details are everything. This has taught us to listen first and to place the lived experiences of our users at the absolute centre of our product strategy. It confirmed that building an app that is accessible from its foundation is the only way to create a genuinely inclusive experience.
