Inspiration
Massive issues that humans face like global warming are mainstream. We thought that issues like this should be accepted and that we should use the media to our advantage due to it's massive influence on society. So we decided to create a video game that was somewhat based on the future effects of global warming.
What it does
It is a first person shooter that allows the user to play as a character trying to survive in a world without oxygen. The user must kill the zombies around him to gain enough oxygen to survive, while they try not to die in the process from the zombies themselves.
How we built it
We built our project using Unity and Blender. These applications have a steep learning curve, so we utilized YouTube to learn the basics of the UI.
Challenges we ran into
As Unity isn't a collaborative tool unless you pay money, we struggled to collaborate efficiently on the coding side. We overcame this by using version control and pair programming.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make a functioning game that was able to spread awareness about a massive global issue.
What we learned
We learned a lot about Unity and Blender because the learning curve to adapt to those types of UI and UX interfaces was a struggle for us being beginners.
What's next for A World Beyond Ruin
We want to make an actual impact on the world around us by using blockchain AI to generate virtual money on the blockchain that can be donated to the cause we are supporting. Also, an in-game currency that will directly go to a non-profit that is supporting out cause.
