A Wardrobe Away

Inspiration

My inspiration for A Wardrobe Away was my college experience. When I entered my first year in college I discovered that whatever event it was you were expected to wear something new. Every vacation I saw my roommate dragging her old festive clothes home which she had worn once and bringing new clothes back to hostel. I often wondered how much waste do these festive clothes that we only wear twice generate. During my stay at the hostel, I observed that certain girls who were acquainted with individuals who had quite fashionable closets would frequently visit their rooms and would borrow clothes. But not everyone was able to do this either because they didn't have friends who wore the same size or they were too ashamed to swap. I tried doing this a few times as well, but I felt awful taking things from my friends without returning the favor. I wondered how much more comfortable had I been if I were swapping my outfits with others that I no longer wanted to wear.

What it does

It is a website/app to hold events all across the world to swap clothes. All you have to do is to bring the clothes you no longer wish to have and swap them for something you like at the event. In order to host an event users can make a post on the community page stating the place and time where they would like to hold the event. Then users can share this invite with everyone and attendees can RSVP.

What we learned

I have learned how to pitch an idea in a hackathon and how to make a dream come to life.

What's next for A Wardrobe Away

I look forward to making a website for this community project and bringing this idea I have had for a long time to life!!
