Inspiration

Parking should be a walk in the park.

What it does

This app will show you the parking locations that are near by that still have available spots.

How we built it

We used Current powered by GE's API to help us retrieve data in the parking lots about cars coming in/out. We used MySQL to store our data, and Java to process it. We used Tomcat to set up the server using the Spring framework. We used React Native in the Expo XDE to make the app.

Challenges we ran into

Setting up a server.

Some team members had never used JavaScript before, and picked it up pretty quickly.

I worked on the front-end user experience/design. I wrote the app in React Native. I implemented the Google Maps API and designed custom markers.

I worked on a Twilio API which would be able to send and receive SMS messages notifying users when a parking lot near them had open spots. Unfortunately, we ran out of time with connecting it to the server and weren't able to implement it at the hackathon.

Gabrielle Di Bacco
I worked on integrating the API which we used to provide us information about the parking lots. It involved a lot of trouble shooting and problem solving, but I learned a lot of connectivity with java. The API was provided by Connect powered by GE.

Did the back end using java in the spring framework and hosted it on a tomcat server, also setup a mysql server on azure created the database entities and relationships.
