Inspiration
Game concept: We were inspired by the Twin Paradox, regarding how the passage of time is impacted by the speed of travel. Lore: We were inspired by the novel "3 Body Problem" by Cixin Liu. Art: The design of the rocket, plant, and planets were inspired by cats, and the character design of the protagonist was inspired by A.J. from The Umbrella Academy.
What it does
In high speeds close to the speed of light, time experiences relative time dilation to a stationary observer. To transport a tree from far, far away, you'll need to take account of special relativity on your journey. Control the speed of the rocket to make sure you arrive on the planet while the tree has bells!
How we built it
P5 Javascript Digital Art Softwares (Medibang, Procreate)
Challenges we ran into
- We all lacked experience in P5 Javascript, and therefore had to learn it as we made our project.
- Special relativity only applies to constant speeds; therefore, we had to assume that velocity changed via discrete intervals. This is not completely accurate to what happens in reality.
- Formatting the game to be aesthetic was a challenge in a new language.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We drew all the art in the game by hand.
- We learned a completely new coding language.
- We learned about special relativity.
What's next for A Special Kind of Farming
- Implement aspects of general relativity - accounting for "acceleration" loophole
