Inspiration
Well given my main portfolio site is based on a kind of space style theme - with this hackathon I just decided to add another section dedicated the realms of space.
What it does
Practically speaking - its a condense section of cards which link back to a set of pages which themselves hold cards
How we built it
The original site was designed on V0 (while the design had some principle ideas i retained - the majority of the design was changed by the time I had cursor begin the barebones) then had cursor build the barebones, from there it was a mix of just creating the rest of the site in Next js (Astro was a consideration at the time - but Next js was just something I was more used to, and as the site was meant to be deploy while in beta to Vercel - made sense to use the tech stack they developed themselves, just runs nicely). Tailwind css was the defacto for styling - just a great way to add styling for almost every situation.
After that it was just a case of using the existing modular components I had designed to fit the design I had intended for the project - and using cursor to surmise the content into sections I felt would work best to user ingestion.
Challenges we ran into
There wasn't really a particular challenge with this project - it was mostly just modifications of existing work - and making it fit into the goal at hand for this project. One thing that was a challenge was keeping simple yet giving enough information to educate in a way that seems rather quick to ingest.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Well one thing that's nice for this particular project is the simplicity of it - it doesn't take weeks for do this, barely took the better part of a day. And as usual, modularity is key - just allows me to create templates for future use - and options on how I want to style.
What we learned
Well one of the key lessons learned here is - don't try add too much content. The original plan was to create a massive collection of pages numbering likely well into the 50+ range on just details on space, but to do that in a simplistic fashion - would be a utter waste of what could be done in a far better way in a standalone fashion when applied with the next few development stages.
What's next for A "simple" space education
Seeing this is a rather simplistic approach to the idea of educating the masses on space - the next few stages of development would revolve around creating a standalone site - which would focus more closely on 3D mechanics to allow users to interact with planets etc - to give a more interactive and entertaining education style.
