Inspiration
I knew I wanted to utilize 3D printing in my project from the beginning and decided to combine it with the challenge of the 8-bit track. I enjoy futuristic settings and love sci-fi and thought that a very cool idea would be to combine the virtual world and the physical world.
What it does
My project is mixed media with both the pixel art I made and the figure I 3D printed featuring eyes that light up through LEDs.
How I built it
The figure was prepared for printing in Ultimaker Cura and then printed on an Ender 3 Pro printer. Eyes were created by a simple circuit composed of a breadboard, 2 LEDs, 2 resistors, and wires.
Challenges I ran into
The circuit took much longer than planned. My 3D print had to be restarted as the build plate needed to be recalibrated. Originally I wanted a feature on my demo site to allow a user to use a slider to look back and forth between the pixel art I made and the 3D model, however, I was not able to implement this feature.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I took a workshop for soldering in the past but I hadn't used that skill until this hackathon and I'm proud of what I was able to create as a beginner.
What I learned
I learned that projects always take longer than you think they will (haha) but also that it may be smarter to 3D print pieces separately in the off chance they misprint, you have more time to course correct.
What's next for "Becoming Real"
In the future, I would like to install a micro servo to the head to get it to rotate. I would like to add other add-ons to the model but have not decided on anything else at this moment.
