We have been looking for an opportunity to do climate crisis related work and coming to the hackathon we saw a possibility to also work with new interesting technology; in this case AR.
What it does
Our product provides a great way to gain concrete understanding of the disastorous results of the climate crisis. The product use GPS coordinated filters and hand crafted AR experiences to alters the environment.
How we built it
We built a demo website which simulates the environment of the future and built a small AR demo on top of that to simulate the hand crafted experiences.
Challenges we ran into
We had problems getting our 3D models to mobile friendly format, while not losing all their texture and fidelity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The prototype in general especially when it comes to functionality and the degree to which we managed to make the AR work. We came up with the idea of combining algorithmic and handcrafted functionality. We managed to reach all of our goals despite the tight schedule.
What we learned
The difficulties of AR. We improved our teamwork, communication skills, presenting our work and pitching an idea. We also went outside of our comfort zone in relation to production managment and artistic skills.
What's next for Apoca AR
We would like to take our application beyond the prototype and then start to increase coverage and work with artists to create more handcrafted experiences.
