Hello, I am Aletheia Couts and I would love to introduce you to the demo site I created titled A.P.P.lause!
What it does: The acronym A.P.P. in applause represent Advance, Protect and Provide. We hope to bring applause and necessary recognition to vital social justice and sustainability efforts around the world by connecting our users with causes that best interest them and their communities. Our site is community based and features a spotlight page that focuses on three notable causes a week alongside guides to where you can learn how to help or donate directly to the featured causes. Our site also features a sustainability quiz and polls to encourage interaction between each every visitor to the A.P.P.lause site. I hope you enjoy!
How we built it: I built the site with Wix, Velo, and JavaScript My sites landing page and UI were developed using Wix. I used JavaScript in collaboration with Wix's Velo services as a template to make the interactive quiz that is featured on the A.P.P.lause site in the sustainability quiz section.
Challenges we ran into: My biggest challenge when working on this site was refamiliarizing myself with javascript while also using it in Velo which was a first for me. Making a quiz in JavaScript was quite the challenging task and I am actively working to iron out the kinks to further the improvement of my site.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: I am proud that my site is presentable and functioning. I suddenly became a solo hacker while also being a first time Hackathon attendee so I had to quicky change gears and focus on developing an entirely new project. Regardless, I persevered and I am able to present my ideas in a functional manner. I am so proud of what I have come up with so far!
What we learned: I learned that its is great to connect and interact with my peers because every interaction I have had with them throughout this Hackathon has event allowed me to develop many of the ideas I put into my site A.P.P.lause so far!
What's next for A.P.P.lause: I hope to research and curate real collaborations with sustainability and social justice efforts. White this site is a demo currently, I know it can become so much more with a bit of time, patience, and collaboration with other passionate people to uplift important causes!
