Inspiration: There is a need to provide affordable artist space in the Chicago area as well as empower Chicago residents to become successful business owners (arts based) via a social business model
What it does: It brings new members into LACUNA to become aware of the space, the facility, and the venue with the end goal having members become tenants
How I built it: Based on the existing need to create sustainable business models through social action based on my prior experience with art and social business models. The outreach to bring in more women artists and mentors is also a huge marketing/selling point of the Community Collaborative. Further development would include a workable App to connect the greater Chicago community, artists, and mentors to the Creative Collaborative. Our technologist will work with City of Chicago databases to create API's that could become the backbone of the digital presence of SB4
Challenges I ran into: Wish I'd had more time to create a mock-up of the App
Accomplishments that I'm proud of: Having a model that will advertise, market, and provide outreach and awareness of LACUNA Artist Lofts as a destination without having any cost passed on to LACUNA Artist Loft to attract and secure new tenants. This model will bring in lots of people for events, membership, collaboratives, shows, etc. thus increasing and expanding the presence of LACUNA Artist Lofts as the destination for affordable artist studios/space.
What I learned: LACUNA is a great place to create and what artist in Chicago wouldn't want to be a part of the LACUA community!
What's next for A New Kind of Tenant Actually implementing the idea :-)
