Food for all not in the private sector
Introduction : We cannot leave the future of our food security to the private food sectors of America. As Americans, we should have availability of reliable and affordable food. With years of failures in controlling this system, we believe it is time that the people take a step into this issue. We don't want to focus on one community and leave out the other so we found a way we could possibly help both rural and urban. Background: As we research a prominent statistic that showed us we need a solution for a reliable way of obtaining groceries is Low income Urban that have a distance greater than(½ mile) rural (10 miles) is 27.9% of population in Illinois for all food deserts. This shows how transportation greatly affects food deserts. In addition, funding is a large problem when doing research. In order to incentivize companies in opening a location in a food desert comes with many Tax credits. However, we have already seen failed for profit grocery stores in deserts such as the failure that Wholefoods had when they opened a location in Englewood, Chicago, a food desert. Proposed solution and needs to implement your solution Our solution focuses on establishing a NGO Grocery store chain that operates across focusing on Urban food deserts with a plan to upscale to rural food deserts. Our main focus will be on communication with the community, we must listen to their needs, after all this is a grocery store for their community. Both Cash and SNAP can be accepted by us. However, to incentivise healthy eating, extra funds are allocated towards healthy foods, meaning if you buy healthy foods you will gain extra spending money. By using our app, consumers are able to order fresh produce with a small delivery fee based on distance from the store. The max radius is 2 miles in an urban setting versus 12 miles in a rural area. Deliveries will be made 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday,Friday) with a requested 2 hour delivery block provided by customers. Included in the app is an input of Age, Gender, Weight, Height, Allergies, Diseases. This will be used when creating your profile, we will use this data, bar personal data, in order to analyze data and see what health trends occur in certain neighborhood.create a personalized food plan based on your specifics . This food plan will provide personalized knowledge to those who have been affected by discriminatory laws which create food deserts. The AI uses user input along with our extensive Database in order to suggest foods that may benefit the user along with meal plans. These meal plans will provide nutritionally dense meals for people who don't have the advantage of talking to a nutritional specialist at their leisure. Capital will be raised by taking advantage of both federal and state grants. Some examples of this are S.B850,- a 20 million dollar grant signed by governor JB Pritzker towards filling food deserts in illinois. Another example is New Market Tax Credits (NMTC), used for opening a new store in a new market. Healthy Food Access for All Americans (HFAAA) has a new store tax credit of 15% for opening up NGO grocery stores. Finally, the Federal Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) which directly benefits SNAP users. However, we understand that many of these tax credits only apply to a first time.
