Inspiration

We wanted to make an invention in order to address one of our main concerns as commuting students. With this, we are able to maximize our resources and make good investments, while providing a useful tool for businesses as well as shoppers!

What it does

Our Web Application focuses on data analytics of fuel economy of all types of cars ranging from your affordable daily consumers cars to the most luxurious brands, ensuring a wide selection for our users to do their research and make their decisions based on their needs and wants. We have a comparison feature that compares 2 cars' statistics, giving the user the most compact design while accomplishing our goal of analyzing the trends of the fuel economies. We also have a page for aggregated statistics for those out there who are curious about cars. Lastly, we have a page specifically for extensive research when there is a specific model car that the users want to look at!

How we built it

We built a Single-Page-Application using React and tailwind CSS as our frontend. We also used a library that none of us have ever used before for the backend, Fastify. Combined with Prisma as our ORM and typescript as a build step, we were able to be super productive and accomplish our goals this hackathon! The project was difficult, but we made it through many challenges and came out on top.

Challenges we ran into

Ultimately this hackathon was a problem with time. We wanted to add so many features to our project, but we had to be realistic with our planning. We came up wtih some realistic goals for our project, and I'm happy to say that we went above and beyond what we thought we could do in 24 hours!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our ability to collaborate together on different areas of the project all at once was really a happy moment for us. We thought that merge conflicts were going to ruin our day, but we were able to divide up the work in a way that we ran into minimal issues.

What we learned

We learned a TON this hackathon. Not only is it our first hackathon for 3 of the 4 of us, but it was also our first time working together as friends on a serious project. We learned a ton about the Git CLI, React, TypeScript, and even build tools.

What's next for Team Mango

We plan on going to more hackathons together, hopefully to do even better than this time. HackUTD was a great experience overall and we hope to attend more events just like this one!
