Inspiration
The inspiration for this project has stemmed from my own experiences in mathematics. As someone who has loved math from a young age, I was really disappointed in myself when I had difficulties learning geometry at the beginning of this year. Proofs and theorems were an entirely foreign concept to me, and I began to really doubt myself and lose confidence in my abilities. However, thankfully, my school offers peer tutoring, where you can fill out a form and be matched with an older and more experienced student within days! This was really helpful to me, and I instantly saw improvements in my understanding. However, other schools may not provide the same opportunities to their students, and many students cannot afford private tutoring outside of school, so I was trying to think of an alternative solution.
What it does
My vision is to create a website that allows students who are struggling post mathematical questions - whether they be specific problems they are having issues with, or clarification questions about topics as a whole. There would be multiple branches within the website for varying levels of experience - for example, one for elementary school students, a separate channel for middle schoolers, and two others for high school and college. To respond to questions, people could comment below a post with help, and if extra clarification is necessary, message them privately. Points would be distributed for helping others, and weekly shoutouts could be given on the website for the most active helpers. This website could also provide resources with helpful links to videos for varying concepts, and really just be a place for mathematics-lovers or those who are struggling to convene and help each other.
What's next for A Mathematical Journey for All
As a beginner in coding, I do not currently possess the skills to make my vision a reality. However, over the next few years, I would likely be able to bring action to this idea, and hopefully help people in the process!
