Inspiration
Seeing other students’ professional portfolios really motivated me. Around the same time, I started keeping fish and was captivated by the beauty of betta fish against a stark black backdrop. I wanted to weave this aesthetic into my portfolio to give it a personal and distinctive flair.
What it does
The site is straightforward. It showcases my hackathon projects, research endeavors over my three years at Fullerton, and highlights my publications and awards. It includes sections for my bio, educational background, work experience, and contact information. It's a strong reflection of both who I am and my technical skills.
How we built it
I dedicated two intense weeks to grind out the website. Initially, I crafted a design in Figma which I then converted into code. This project was my first try at HTML, Bootstrap CSS, and JavaScript, and I got a lot of help from YouTube. Care was taken to ensure the design was responsive across different devices. The site is simple with no back-end or APIs.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating my interest in fish into the design posed a challenge. After experimenting a bit, I decided to embed royalty-free HD videos of the fish that cycle through the background.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud to have completed a project that warrants its own domain! It was a fun experience, one that I often mention to inspire friends to develop their own personal brands.
What we learned
Creating a website is possible for anyone; infusing it with personal charm, however, requires a bit of creativity!
What's next for A Hello I'm Portfolio
The plan is to periodically update the website with new achievements and milestones!
