People in my generation, and of all ages really, are having difficulty managing all aspects of their health in their day-to-day lives. Our inspiration was geared toward those that don't know how to effectively maintain a healthy lifestyle. We would like to change that.
What it does
To help users better each part of their health, we broke down the aspects of health into three separate branches: Emotional/Social, Physical, and Mental health. By isolating each aspect of health separately, users can improve each branch, and therefore, improving their overall well-being.
How I built it
Lenovo and MIT App Inventor so graciously provided the tools, and therefore the opportunity, to participate in such an amazing opportunity. By providing two of our academies (Engineering and Finance) with both laptop computers and yoga tablets, Lenovo assisted us in our process of creating applications. We were also supplied with the MIT App Inventor Software, where we actually built our applications.
Challenges I ran into
While we ran into many struggles along the way, the biggest one we faced was trying to develop a tiny database. The purpose of this database was to enable users to first register, then log in, so that the application remembered the logged in user's information. While this may sound simplistic, it was a very tedious process. Hard work and concentration coupled with extensive research and dedication helped solve this problem.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are very proud of how much a simple idea has grown from last year to this year. We feel that our app can make a big difference in the lives of others, which was the goal from the start.
What I learned
Through this process, we have collectively learned that the only way to succeed in doing something is through hard work and perseverance. When you fail in programming something, or at anything in life, you can only learn from it, doing better the next time around. Adversity will always come your way, and however impossible it may seem at first, learning from it, and concentration on workable solutions will help to overcome it.
What's next for A Healthy Life 2.0
The next big plan we have been thinking is instilling algorithms. This way, based on the mood and data from a certain user based on their profile, different information is to be viewed. We know this will be a challenge, but we are confident that we can our plans can and will become a reality.
