Inspiration
We wanted to make something that is socially beneficial. We realized how websites often aren't accessible to people with disabilities, especially those with auditory/visual impairments and dyslexia. We decided to make an app that would serve as a guide to help websites become more accessible
What it does
The app opens with four clickable buttons. One takes you to an "About" page to learn more about the project. The other three are "Audio", "Dyslexia", and "Visual". When clicking on one of these three buttons, you are taken to screen with two buttons: Information and Sources. When you click on one of them, you will be taken to a page with links and resources.
How we built it
The whole app is coded in Python with an imported graphics package from John Zelle.
Challenges we ran into
It was hard to find information for this project because often accessible web design is not prioritized.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we could make a guide to make websites more accessible. We did important research and compiled sources that we'll hopefully be able to share with others.
What we learned
We learned the importance of accessible web design for people with various disabilities. We also learned that when these accommodations are made, they benefit everyone, not just those who need them.
What's next for A Guide to Accessible Web Design
In the future, we may turn this app into a website for others to use. We would also like to fill out every page and add more information.
