Inspiration

When my kids were young they had many respiratory problems and we went to the hospital many times. During those visits, the nurses only measured vital signs and keep the kids for monitoring. The kids were scared when nurses measured their temperature and oxygenation rate. It was difficult for the whole family. in most of the cases, in the morning we returned home. The situation now is not different for many families when their beloved one has respiratory problems. I decided to make a device to help to measure the vital signs but at the same time to be friendly to use. Here comes the glove as a friendlier way to detect the vital signs.

What it does

The glove has an optical and thermal sensor that will measure temperature, ♥, respiratory and oxygenation rate by touching patient hand. The patient is not scared because touching hands is not obtrusive. The vital signs are sent to a phone and further to a hospital to be centralised. Such a device can use to test residents in retirement houses, schools, or people participating in large events. Using smart clustering algorithm we can detect if more people will develop symptoms and we can identify easier the source of the outbreak. The price can be as low as 50 EUR and everyone can use it. ECG can be added in case needed.

How I built it

Using Shimmer sensor node and optical and temperature sensor. From ppg signal I extract ♥. Respiratory and oxygenation rate.

Challenges I ran into

Programming the sensor

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The proof of concept was tested on volunteers who liked the device very much

What I learned

If you want to do something do it and not wait until all people will agree with you

What's next for A glove for life

Ii know is a good device and it can help a lot of people. I hope to find people who can bring this device to market
