Inspiration
Inspiration for this project started at a club meeting. As an ice breaker, we played this drawing game on a white board which was brand new to us and we found it to be extremely entertaining so we wanted to remake it. We also wanted to extend this fun bonding experience for the students who are restricted to staying at home and attending club meetings virtually because of COVID.
What it does
What my team mate and I attempted to do in this project was to create an online multiplayer game of "A Fake Artist Goes to New York" where each player in the party take turns drawing one line on a board to try to draw out a specific word that has been given to them. However, there is one person in the group who is assigned the role as the "fake artist" who does not actually know the word that everyone else is attempting to draw. The goal of the fake artist is to draw a line on the board and pretend to contribute to the drawing like the rest of the artists without knowing the exact thing the group is drawing. By the end of a few rounds, everyone must then cast a vote to pin point who the fake artist is. If the group of real artists are successful in pin pointing the fake, then the group takes the win. But on the contrary, if the wrong person is accused or the group can not come to a majority vote, then the fake artist is the winner.
How we built it
We built this project inside the Unity Game Engine along with another software called Photon, which was used to help create multiplayer.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges in this project were outside events preventing my team mate and I from working on our project the entire weekend, along with implementing multiplayer.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Although implementing multiplayer did not work out, progress was definitely made. We were capable of creating a dedicated server between two clients and making some interaction occur between them.
What we learned
In this project, we learned how to collaborate and work inside Git Hub. We also became a lot more familiar with developing inside of Unity!
What's next for A Fake Artist Goes to Florida
A Fake Artist Goes to Florida has definitely not reached its end. As my team mate and I continue to work on it, we will make a much cleaner and nicer looking User Interface, in addition to figuring out how to implement multiplayer!
