This face shield is genuine and was created during the pandemic of coronavirus, by TED3D in collaboration with University of Thessaly. Since day one repeated RND took place, in order to get to the final model. Up to date more than 8,000 face shields have been distributed to all health and safety agencies all over Greece and Cyprus. Since the first ones were spread in the hospitals, they have been repeatedly tested by the users, the hygiene rules that must be observed at least wearing them have been pointed out, while their mechanical and chemical properties have been verified by the health personnel. The main advantages of these shields over the rest of the trade, but also of other similar ideas worldwide, are:

  • The choice of design and production method. 80,000 pieces can be produced per day. Here it is worth noting the superiority of this shield, in terms of production times and the cost of raw materials, compared to those consisting of 3d printed parts. The production techniques are laser cutting and industrial cutting machines.
  • The right choice of biocompatible materials, up to 2 mm thick that can be sterilized repeatedly, which makes the shields truly versatile. For example, doctors and first-line staff who use them have already exceeded 20 mild sterilizations.
  • It is the only type of emergency of its class that ensures 30% greater coverage and complete protection (they are enclosed and fully applicable by 70%). The design includes the possibility of stress relief so that the user can wear it for many hours without being stressed by extra weight or pressure. It has to be mentioned that TED3D is a 100% Greek start-up company, that voluntarily produced and spread over 8,000 face shields all around Greece in less than 12 days. What really needs to be done now is to make production times faster.
