Inspiration

We wanted to create a story of a family under an intergenerational curse, a family where daily life suddenly, and quite without warning, becomes a nightmare. We started with the least extreme story of the family, the story of Jameson the baker. We were inspired by such artists as H.P. Lovecraft, Mark Twain, and Charles Dickens, as well as the slice of life and isekai genres of anime.

What it does

A Cursed Family: Chapter Three: Baker to the Boss is a game where a ruffian, a made man in a mafia family, shows up to a bakery and demands the baker bake cupcakes for the daughter of the mob boss who employs him.

How we built it

We used Python and Pygame for the coding, Adobe Photoshop CS3 for the art. Exported as exe with pyinstaller.

Challenges we ran into

We spent about forty-five minutes trying to get the ruffian to move in any direction except left. We also found that we had to scale back our expectations in order to meet our deadline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We got the ruffian to move in all directions, not just left. We're also proud that we managed to make something that we believe is fun to play for the time it lasts.

What we learned

It's important to go over your code with a fine-toothed comb, otherwise you'll miss when, buried deep and easy to gloss over, you've typed +- instead of +=.

What's next for A Cursed Family: Chapter Three: Baker to the Boss

There's more we'd like to do for Chapter Three, namely a time trial where the player has to select the correct ingredients to make the cupcakes. We also intend to create the prior chapters and the chapters that come after.
