Inspiration

I'm a TV Producer by trade who specializes in documentary and non-fiction content. So when I started dipping my hands into the AI tools, I knew I wanted my very first project to be a documentary. My husband is the founder of the non-alcoholic beverage company Curious Elixirs, so their mission is near and dear to my heart, and I wanted to make a piece of content for the company. Curious Elixirs includes adaptogenic herbs in their drinks, and one of the most powerful (and storied) herbs they use is Rhodiola Rosea. My husband wanted a video that could educate people about the benefits of this powerful herb. And thus, "A Curious History of Rhodiola" was born.

What it does

How we built it

I used an image to video workflow primarily with Midjourney for image generation and Adobe Photoshop for image editing. The majority of my video was generated with Kling, and I used Runway for lip sync. All narration was written and recorded by me, and then changed with Voice Changer in ElevenLabs. I scored the piece with music from Artlist, and I edited the piece in Adobe Premiere.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first AI film I ever made, so I was learning the tools as I went. I learned very quickly after some wonky video generations that AI films live and die by their first and last frames, and that those image key frames are super important to get right. So I had to throw out some images and go back and do them over again, which was time consuming (and expensive).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was my first AI film, and I'm proud of how well-received it was. It was the very first student documentary that Curious Refuge featured in their AI film gallery. This film also got me an invitation to join Escape AI as a creator.

What we learned

I learned an entire AI film workflow by doing this film. I also learned to edit (this was the very first video I ever edited by myself), and learned the AI video tools. Most importantly, this project was the first creative collaboration between me and my husband, and it was awesome working with him. So there were a lot of firsts with this project!

What's next for A Curious History of Rhodiola

There are other adaptogenic herbs in Curious Elixir's beverages, so this might become a video series!
