Inspiration
My inspiration was that I usually get advent calenders every year because they are a cool add-on to the holidays. I can get a new surprise every day. However this year I wasn't able to because of-- that's right, COVID-19. That's why I decided to create a digital advent calendar so that people can still get their surprise but digitally.
What it does
So this works just like a normal advent calendar. However, this time you would click on the day and get your surprise. You can do this every day for each day of the month to get a brand new surprise to lighten your day.
How I built it
I first set up the monthly days in a calendarized order. I also added the month on top and some other embellishments. I made the calendar more aesthetic and advents like with background pictures and some glowing text. I then linked each day to a different link. This includes some of my own pages I created, cool video links, friendly reminders, and more.
Challenges I ran into
Some challenges I ran into were organizing the days of the month in an orderly way. It was a bit difficult to put in order like 7 days per row but I got through it!
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Some accomplishments I am proud of are the aesthetics. I think it really does look kind of like an advent calendar. I am also proud of the way I linked everything so it looks really good.
What I learned
What I learned is that even with what is going around us we can still create big and important things. We can still brighten the person's day through what we create. The advent calendar really showed me this.
What's next for A Cool Advent Calendar
Maybe next time, I can put the advent calendar in a different shape like a Christmas tree and maybe make it so that when you click a box/day it opens up like a lid and brings you to the surprise by "zooming in".
