Inspiration
We've seen too many cases where women's work does not get recognized. Women often need to work a lot harder to earn a same amount of respect compared to men. Yet, women are leading social initiatives, sustainability campaigns, and battling in their own ways. We wanted to create a place where women do not need to work extra to earn respect, where women get to utilize their strength and collaborate with those who also have no biases. Therefore, we created EcoShe, a platform that amplifies voices and allows women to find their way in male-dominated fields more easily.
What it does
EcoShe is a platform where women+ have the opportunities to connect with mentors that have more experience in specific areas. The user is able to select their interests, goals and preferred communication style. They will then be given a best matched mentor based on those choices. There are also easy eco challenges available that users can complete to earn progress points. Points will earn them badges.
How we built it
After forming a rough plan of our project, we started doing frontend design using Figma. We then used snowflake to write an algorithm that outputs the best matched mentor. We converted it into typescript and integrated with out Figma code. After finishing most of our plan, we went to seek advice from mentors (shoutout to them) who then suggested us to add a function that allows users to switch from being a mentee to a mentor. We were able to make that happen.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out the smart matching mentor feature was a bit tricky but snowflake was pretty convenient and we were able to store user data in it and then pair them up with a mentor.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created a working prototype. Proposed one solution to a problem that we have been seeing.
What we learned
Two of our group members were completely new to Figma. With the help of the other teammate, we were able to produce a fully functional project on Figma.
What's next for EcoShe
We hope to further develop the smart matching mentorship algorithm so that it is able to find even better matches for mentees and mentors. EcoShe also hopes to collaborate with other eco-friendly startups. We would also like to organize women-led campaigns for mentorship and visibility, as well as sustainable initiatives.
