Inspiration

We wanted to create a game that could target certain audiences such as college students and teach them financial literacy and Bitcoin in a way that is fun and much more engaging than your average online course.

What it does

A Bit of Balance is an interactive 2-D platformer game in which players navigate through mario-esque levels whilst learning about financial literacy and alternative currency exchanges such as Bitcoin.

How we built it

We built the game using Unity Hub and coding scripts for different aspects in Visual Studio using C# syntax.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time using Unity, so we had to learn on the fly. This was also our first time developing a game, so we were learning two things at once. Another short-coming that we had was that we lost a team member during the production stages of the project and had to re-divide the workload. Coming up with a concept for a project also took us a while since we wanted to make sure that the game would be both fun and informative.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to get the basic aspects of the game running and we came up with a good concept for our project. Having an almost-complete project at our first hackathon is definitely something we are proud of.

What we learned

We learned the syntax of Unity and C# code. We also learned what to include in projects and what to focus on when we are short on time.

What's next for A Bit of Balance

We plan to finish the game development and hopefully publish it in the future!
