Inspiration
We wanted to explore duality inorder to create an enhanced immersive experience with MR
Overview
In an exploration of interaction and duality, we invite the player to embody two characters: a vulnerable baby chick who has fallen from its nest, and themselves, a benevolent human determined to keep it safe. Use intuitive gestures to make the bird walk and teach it to fly. Catch it in your hand, and a nest will appear nearby. The game ends when you return the bird to its nest.
Tech Stack
Interaction SDK: Baby chick controlled with intuitive hand gestures
Scene SDK: Chick is localized on top of a real meshed surface
Depth API: Chick is occluded behind real world objects
Audio SDK: Spatial Audio cues are strategically placed to make the experience accessible
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The team worked in sync to build a working MVP within a short period of time, took advantage of hand tracking and the new interaction SDK to implement gesture-based controls, and fought through out-of-date documentation to implement spatial audio in order to make the experience inclusive.
Explanation of how you improved your project during the hackathon
We explored many different hand and arm interactions to control the baby bird, iterating towards the most intuitive movements for maximum immersion. To make our experience inclusive we implemented spatial sound effects and cues to tell the player how close they are to the bird; when they have the bird in their hand; and the location of the bird’s nest.
What we learned
From a technical aspect, we learned about the different SDKs which helped us built a much better immersive experience
In terms of the soft skills, we also learned to work in a fast paced environment where diversity is key. We have a great team with complementary skillset. This allowed us to be more emphatic and trust the expertise of each other.
