Inspiration

We were inspired by the self leveling forks that we saw online, but were not happy at the price of the design.

What it does

Our concept is a passive counterbalanced eating utensil designed to reduce the effort required to keep a fork or spoon level during meals for users who may have a disability preventing them from holding a utensil level. A removable utensil on a pivot alongside a counterweight balances the utensil with a typical food load without batteries, motors, charging, or electronic controls. Interchangeable attachments allow users to select the utensil appropriate for each meal.

Challenges we ran into

The size of the counterweight was a big challenge. To see how we addressed it, see the PDF.
