Inspiration
We have a PILOT leader in our team. She is recently concerned about tracking her PILOT-related work, including her working hours, attendance rate, and salary. Based on this situation, we decided to develop a simple user interface application that helps PILOT leaders track their work.
What it does
The PILOT tracker can achieve the following:
- calculate attendance percentage for a given PILOT leader on sessions;
- calculate salary for a given PILOT leader on a specific day;
- collect work log information from users (PILOT leaders);
- calculate total salary that a PILOT leader earns;
- filter work log information for a specific leader;
- plot a leader's attendance percentage trend;
- plot a leader's work hours trend
How we built it
We used Python and built the application in a jupyter notebook.
Challenges we ran into
All of us have no prior experience in hacking nor in building applications, but we managed to utilize our specialty in data analysis.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to complete a reasonably interactive application that can really do the work of helping PILOT leaders track their hard work, and help them better contribute to the university's academic program.
What we learned
We learned to combine Python data analysis with simple user interface. We also learned to break down a problem into smaller parts and tackle them step by step.
What's next for a
We hope to turn our application into a more interactive APP or website that all PILOT leaders can get access to and benefit from it. Furthermore, we want to promote our application to the broader Hopkins community, so that every student employer can use it to track their work and rewards.
