Inspiration

The four of us coming from or having lived in big cities with complex and interconnected transportation systems, we know what an issue it is for a city to be able to transport people everyday to their destinations at any moment of the day, and that these systems are usually a pillar of the proper working of these cities. With the current COVID-19 pandemic, urban transportation systems management have become an even bigger challenge.

Many people are able to use their own bike or to walk to reach their work, many can work from home, many use a private vehicle, but a significant part of the population is totally dependent on public transports. These people have essential trips they need to do and cannot avoid. In many cities, public transportation systems are still running. However, with the lock-down measures and social distancing, their capacity has been dramatically reduced and it has become very risky to use it.

What it does

Our project aims to develop a new and smart concept to re-organize the passengers' flows in the subway in order to allow these essential trips while reducing the risk of spreading the infection, combining both ideas for the metro network itselt, and also for the area surrounding the stations. Its strength is that it can be implemented quickly and efficiently in any city. We decided to make our solution as general as possible to help any city struggling with the current crisis.

What are the next steps

The solution we propose is a first step int the strategy public transport operators will have to adopt following the lock-down. It will allow operators to handle the situation in the short term. Because a return to normal is not expected in the next few months, Some additional adaptations will have to be implemented in the longer term, such as:

  • Developing an integrated multimodal offer and improving collaboration between transport operators
  • Working hand-in-hand with public institutions and companies to flatten the flow peaks
  • Driving digitalization of public mobility

Who we are and what makes us special

MO-BI-LI-TY has four syllables, like the number of members in our team!

Fabrizio Moscatelli is a Transport and Logistics student with a great passion for the transportation sector and sustainable transport. He is an energetic and ambitious person that doesn't hesitate in facing new challenges.

Federica Menti is an enthusiastic Management Engineering student with experience in Portfolio and Project Management and globe-trotter in her spare time. She doesn't hold back when a challenge is coming up and is trying to use her knowledge to generate positive impact on society.

Cléo Deroo is a Transport and Logistics student, currently writing her master thesis on the role of shared mobilities in a post-pandemic context. Her motivation and great working capacity are key factors for the success of the team work.

Kamil Moreau is a Transportation Systems student never lacking of energy and curiosity and always ready for new adventures and challenges. Languages are his other passion. He aims to be able to communicate with any European in their mother tongue and bring people together towards a friendlier, more social and sustainable Europe.
