A-115-Hamlaty

Inspiration

One of our team members was told about the problems that his parents faced when they went for Hajj. The company that they booked the caravan with cheated them; they received a bare fraction of the services and facilities that they were promised (and made to pay for). This led us to think about a way for people to rate the caravan that they choose for Hajj, thus they can describe their experience and by doing so, either warn or recommend people with regards to the numerous companies offering pilgrims their services.

What it does

Our system provides a platform for caravan companies to be presented to prospective pilgrims in a way that helps them decide which of them is most suitable to their needs.

The website shows a rating for each company, gathered from the people who booked that particular caravan for their Hajj previously.

This allows transparency of the pilgrims' experience with that company, and lets future pilgrims make better decisions according to the feedback they see.

How we built it

We used React.JS for setting up the website using Material UI for the visual components. We hosted the site on GitHub, and used a Python script to scrape data for the caravan details.

We built a website from scratch using Material UI and React JS. We used fonts and icons from FontAwesome.

Challenges we ran into

We had to decide between different possible models for our website which were very similar to each other. We also chose to present the system as a website instead of an app, as we thought that that made more sense.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to set up and publish a website from scratch in a limited period of time and create enough content to sufficiently demonstrate our vision for the system.

What we learned

We learned to use React Router to handle page requests and navigation.

What's next for A-115-Hamlaty

In the future, we envision our website to be the comprehensive solution for managing, communicating with, rating, reviewing and booking caravans that takes all the hassle out of the current way of doing those tasks.
