Inspiration
Over the past 20 years working in e-commerce operations, I've seen businesses invest in ERPs, marketplaces, warehouse management systems, finance platforms and customer support tools—yet operational teams still spend countless hours manually piecing together information to understand what is really happening across the business.
The data already exists, but it lives in disconnected systems that don't communicate with each other.
I wanted to explore a different approach.
What if AI could think like an experienced operations leader?
Rather than simply generating answers, what if it could connect fragmented operational data, uncover hidden risks and help teams prioritise the actions that matter most?
That idea became 941.
What it does
941 is an AI Operational Intelligence Platform.
For this MVP, users upload operational reports such as:
- Orders
- Inventory
- Returns
941 analyses the relationships between these datasets to identify operational issues including:
- Inventory discrepancies
- Missing refunds
- Refunds without returned products
- Duplicate fulfilment
- Financial leakage
- Slow-moving inventory
Rather than simply highlighting problems, 941 explains why they matter, estimates their operational impact and recommends the next actions teams should take.
Although today's version uses uploaded reports, this is only the beginning.
The long-term vision is for 941 to connect directly to ERPs, marketplaces, finance systems, warehouses and customer support platforms, providing continuous operational intelligence across an organisation.
How I built it
941 combines deterministic operational logic with OpenAI models.
A rule engine validates uploaded datasets and identifies operational issues using clear, explainable evidence.
GPT then interprets those findings, explains their business impact in natural language and generates prioritised recommendations to help teams investigate and resolve issues more quickly.
OpenAI Codex was used throughout development to accelerate implementation, while I focused on designing the operational logic, product vision and overall user experience.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was deciding where AI genuinely adds value.
Rather than asking AI to detect operational issues directly, I separated the platform into two parts:
- Deterministic rules identify issues using structured evidence.
- AI explains those findings, provides business context and recommends actions.
This approach makes every recommendation more transparent, reliable and explainable.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that 941 demonstrates how AI can move beyond conversation and become a genuine operational decision-support tool.
Instead of simply analysing spreadsheets, it helps transform disconnected operational data into meaningful business intelligence that teams can actually act upon.
I'm also proud that the platform represents the first step towards a much bigger vision rather than just a hackathon prototype.
What I learned
Building 941 reinforced something I've experienced throughout my career:
Most organisations don't have a data problem.
They have a decision problem.
Valuable operational information already exists across multiple systems, but it is fragmented, difficult to interpret and often only connected through manual investigation.
AI becomes most valuable when it helps people connect that information, understand what matters and decide what to do next.
What's next for 941
Today's MVP demonstrates the concept using uploaded operational reports.
The long-term vision is for 941 to become the operational intelligence layer that sits above every business system.
By connecting directly to ERPs, marketplaces, finance platforms, warehouses and customer support systems, 941 will continuously identify operational risks, explain their impact and recommend the highest-priority actions before problems become expensive.
Rather than replacing existing software, 941 aims to help organisations make better operational decisions by transforming disconnected business data into clear, explainable operational intelligence.
The goal is simple:
Transform disconnected operational data into clear, explainable business decisions.
