Inspiration
We wanted to build something that helps people connect more easily around shared activities and events. A common problem we noticed is that discovering, organising, or joining events can be fragmented across multiple platforms. This inspired us to create a simple, centralised web experience that lowers the barrier to participation and encourages community engagement.
What it does
Our website, 8vents, allows users to discover, create, and interact with events in one place. It provides an intuitive interface for browsing opportunities, viewing details, and engaging with others. The platform focuses on accessibility and ease of use, making it straightforward for users to participate without unnecessary friction.
How we built it
We built the platform using modern web technologies with a focus on responsiveness and modular design. The frontend handles user interaction and visual presentation, while backend services manage data and user actions. We structured development iteratively — prototyping core features first, then expanding functionality and refining the user experience.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a user flow that remained simple while supporting multiple features
Handling data consistency and state management across components
Debugging integration issues between different parts of the stack
Managing time constraints while still maintaining code quality
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Delivering a functional end-to-end prototype within limited time
Creating a clean and intuitive user interface
Successfully implementing core features that demonstrate real-world usability
Collaborating effectively as a team and adapting quickly to challenges
What we learned
The importance of planning architecture before implementation
How to balance feature scope with time limitations
Practical debugging and integration experience
Improved teamwork, communication, and rapid iteration skills
What's next for 8vents
Expanding features based on user feedback
Improving scalability and performance
Adding deeper personalization and discovery tools
Enhancing security, reliability, and deployment readiness
Continuing development toward a production-ready
