The inspiration behind APEC.Green stems from the need to empower MSMEs and underserved groups in accessing sustainable trade opportunities in the global marketplace. We aim to revolutionize international trade and promote eco-friendly practices.

What it does?

APEC.Green is a platform that facilitates sustainable global trade for MSMEs and underserved groups. It provides a decentralized trade ecosystem where businesses can access AI-powered sustainability filters, streamline export processes, assess carbon footprint factors, and secure comprehensive trade credit insurance. The platform promotes transparency, trust, and inclusivity in international trade.

The Problem Statement

  • Limited access to sustainable trade opportunities for MSMEs and underserved groups. Onboarding local sellers to trade internationally is difficult, it is required a lot of processes and tons of documents, blocking them to join in.
  • Lack of transparency and trust in eco-friendly trade practices, hindering the growth of sustainable commerce.
  • Inadequate protection and insurance options for international trade, leave businesses vulnerable to financial risks.
  • Difficulty in identifying and filtering sustainable export products, resulting in inefficiencies and delays in the trading process. Carbon footprint factors are time-consuming to research and some export products have really high GHG and it's treated as not eco-friendly at all.

  • Develop a decentralized identity platform that provides easy access to sustainable trade opportunities for MSMEs and underserved groups, connecting them with global markets and customers.
  • Implement transparent and traceable trade practices through the use of web3 technology, ensuring trust and visibility in eco-friendly transactions.
  • Offer comprehensive trade credit insurance tailored to the needs of MSMEs and underserved groups, mitigating financial risks associated with international trade.

How We Built it?

APEC.Green was built by leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as web3, AI, blockchain, and encryption algorithms.

We utilize GPT3.5 Turbo to enhance our export AI assistant, strategically crafting prompts for GPT3.5 Turbo which we subsequently integrate into our application. Our user interface is designed with a focus on simplicity and ease of use. We construct these prompts to address essential facets of product exportation, including Carbon Footprint Factors, Carbon Reduction, Beneficial Policies, and potential Resisting Policies.

Upon evaluation of their product's carbon footprint and policy risks, as suggested by our export AI assistant, users can proceed to the Know Your Business (KYB) phase. We employ blockchain technology in conjunction with encryption algorithms to ensure the secure storage of KYB documents. This also provides verifiability of our KYB while maintaining privacy.

Following the successful completion of the KYB phase, users will receive a digital identity (DID) in return. Afterward, users have the option to purchase our blockchain-based trade credit insurance to protect all exporters internationally with a trustless design. Unique to our system, upon purchase, we mint a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) as proof of insurance acquisition, thereby enhancing transparency.

Additionally, we offer an innovative approach to our insurance reserve pool, inviting external investors. Contrary to conventional insurance models where solely the insurance company maintains responsibility for the insurance reserve, our insurance model welcomes external investors to contribute to the reserve. In return, they receive revenue generated from insurance purchases, all while sharing the associated risk. This promotes diversification and increased sustainability within the insurance market.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Programming Complexities within a Limited Timeframe: Developing the APEC.Green platform within a short development timeframe posed significant challenges. Overcoming complex programming tasks such as integrating AI filters (GPT3.5 Turbo), deploying smart contracts on the L2 chain, and ensuring seamless user experience required efficient resource allocation, streamlined workflows, and prioritization of key features.

  • Limited Time for Research and Learning: The project's short development time left limited room for extensive research and learning, particularly in the domain of sustainability. We had to quickly acquire knowledge of sustainability metrics, carbon emission calculations, and best practices in eco-friendly trade to ensure accurate and effective implementation within the platform.

  • Balancing Data Integrity and Privacy with Time Constraints: Ensuring robust data integrity, privacy, and secure storage mechanisms while working within the project's limited time frame presented challenges. We had to make efficient decisions regarding encryption algorithms, data storage methods, and privacy compliance to maintain data security without compromising on project timelines.

  • Managing Iterative Development and User Feedback in a Short Time: Incorporating user feedback and implementing iterative development cycles within a short timeframe posed challenges. We needed to efficiently gather user feedback, analyze insights, and prioritize feature enhancements and refinements to deliver a high-quality platform that meets user expectations.

Addressing these challenges required a focused and efficient approach to development, strategic allocation of resources, and effective project management. By leveraging our expertise, optimizing workflows, and maintaining clear communication, we successfully delivered the APEC.Green platform within the limited development time, enabling sustainable international trade and empowering businesses to make environmentally conscious choices.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We have successfully developed a robust web application for APEC.Green, including the deployment of a testnet smart contract that ensures secure and transparent transactions on the platform. Our integration with GPT3.5 Turbo has enabled powerful AI filters to assist users in identifying sustainable export products. Establishing secure KYB document storage using blockchain technology, and pioneering an innovative insurance model incorporating external investors. We have also successfully designed a user-friendly interface with seamless access to the platform via APEC.Green, making sustainable global trade accessible and convenient for MSMEs and underserved groups.

To use APEC.Green:

  • Install a web3 wallet (e.g., MetaMask) on your Chrome extension or Dapp-support browser for mobile usage.
  • Visit https://apec.green and connect your web3 wallet.
  • Select the Goerli Optimism Testnet Network and claim the platform faucet for 1,000,000 USDC (test currency).
  • Input your export data on the AI Export Assistant page. GPT3.5 Turbo will provide export policy advice based on your information.
  • Complete the Know Your Business (KYB) process to receive a company digital identity (DID) as proof of identity (gas fees apply).
  • Use your registered company.green (DID) to purchase decentralized trade credit insurance for your export products (gas fees and USDC required).
  • Track your NFT Insurance Policy and transactional history to review your insurance coverage and associated transactions.
  • By following these steps, you can effectively utilize APEC.Green, access AI assistance, obtain trade credit insurance, and review your export-related records.

What We Learned?

Throughout the development process, we gained valuable insights and expertise in various programming technologies and frameworks. We also honed our skills in integrating GPT3.5 Turbo for AI filters, optimizing its performance to provide accurate and reliable sustainability assessments. Additionally, we gained a profound understanding of data privacy and security, ensuring robust protection of user information. These learnings have strengthened our technical proficiency and equipped us to navigate the complexities of developing innovative solutions for sustainable global trade. We also gained extensive knowledge in implementing carbon emission/reduction calculations for each export product, contributing to our mission of promoting sustainability. We explored various methodologies and integrated them into our platform to provide users with accurate assessments of the environmental impact of their trade activities.

In addition, we successfully deployed our smart contract on the Optimism Layer2 chain, enabling efficient digital identity management and decentralized trade credit insurance. Leveraging its scalability and cost-efficiency benefits. This choice enabled faster transaction processing and reduced gas fees, ensuring a seamless user experience while maintaining the security and reliability of the platform.

What's next for APEC.Green?

We have an exciting roadmap ahead, focusing on further enhancing and expanding the capabilities of APEC.Green to better serve our users and advance sustainable global trade. Our next steps include:

  • Refining AI Filters: We will continue to refine and optimize our AI filters powered by GPT3.5 Turbo (Upgrade to be GPT4.0), leveraging user feedback and data to improve the accuracy and reliability of sustainability assessments. This will enable businesses to make informed decisions and select the most environmentally friendly export products.

  • Scaling the Platform: We plan to scale the APEC.Green platform, accommodating a larger user base and expanding our reach to new markets. This will involve strengthening our infrastructure, optimizing performance, and ensuring seamless user experiences as we onboard more MSMEs and underserved groups onto the platform.
