Inspiration

In our darkest moments, what we often crave isn’t a solution - it’s to simply be heard. HOPE was born out of personal struggles with mental health, especially during times when sharing pain felt impossible. I often wished there was a safe, judgment-free space where I could just speak my heart without fear, identity, or expectations. That wish became HOPE.

What it does

HOPE is a calming, anonymous web app where users can record and send short voice notes to a random stranger. They can also receive a voice note from someone else and choose to reply, helping complete a temporary, empathetic exchange. There are no usernames, no histories - just a shared moment of emotional release.

How we built it

The app was created entirely using Bolt.new. It was deployed via Netlify as a PWA. All functionality (sending, receiving, replying) is simulated on the same device for privacy and demo simplicity, with a focus on UX and emotional tone.

Challenges we ran into

Building a meaningful experience without a backend was a major constraint. Simulating anonymous 1-to-1 flows locally while keeping logic clean and understandable within Bolt's limitations took creative UX decisions. Getting the emotional tone right - soft, calming, non-triggering was as important as technical precision.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of how HOPE makes users feel. Early testers described it as “comforting,” “exactly what I needed,” and “a silent friend.” We’re also proud that this was built without code, proving accessibility in mental health tech.

What we learned

That even the simplest product - if honest in intent can connect deeply with people. We also learned that constraints breed creativity; working within Bolt’s limitations led to better clarity in experience design.

What's next for the project

We plan to integrate a real backend (Firebase) and bring HOPE to the Play Store as a fully functioning, anonymous voice-sharing app with end-to-end flow across devices. We also plan to add optional mental health resources in a gentle, non-intrusive way.
