As event organizers and students, I know how challenging it can be to find events, such as hackathons or campus activities. It's an understatement to say that there's a ton of content out there.
What it does
Our code searches through Facebook events in a Facebook group that you have joined and then automatically adds it to a public Google Calendar. Thus, making it easy to look at all the suggested new hackathons to go to, or events to visit!
How we built it
We built it with Python while also including the Facebook Graphs API, Google Calendar API to retrieve the data and send it out to the Google Calendar.
Challenges we ran into
Most of us did not have experience using the APIs that Facebook and Google Calendar provided. It was a bit of a learning curve to be able to learn all the abilities of the API and use them correctly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
We learned how to quickly adapt to limited time and learn new APIs that Google and Facebook provided, to implement them properly in our project
What's next for 6ixHackers
The next feature for this would be to integrate other sources of events such as from (Eventbrite, MyEvent.com, LIVE Nation, Ticketmaster. In addition, in the future the script should would improve in efficiency, ensuring that old events already read would not be read again (improving runtime)
