Inspiration
Inspired by the CareersSG website, our platform addresses the critical challenge fresh graduates face when navigating fragmented career information. Many students struggle to find a clear path to employment amidst a sea of unorganized data.
What it does
The application serves as a comprehensive career navigation tool that:
- Matches Users to Jobs: Extracts skill data from LinkedIn and GitHub to find suitable roles.
- Visualizes Skills: Uses spider maps to display user competencies and calculate job match percentages.
- Identifies Gaps: Highlights skill gaps and recommends specific courses and structured roadmaps.
- Market Insights: Showcases trending jobs and skills while enabling advanced job filtering.
- Career Support: Links to interview preparation resources and includes a built-in application tracking system.
How we built it
The platform was developed primarily using TypeScript, utilizing Tailwind CSS for modern, responsive frontend components. We leveraged Cursor AI throughout the process for ideation, rapid prototyping, and the generation of initial templates.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary hurdles was technical debt and architecture; specifically, managing complex file organization and the logistical difficulty of integrating multiple separate codebases into one cohesive, functional system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are particularly proud of successfully implementing such an extensive range of features within a limited timeframe. Delivering a high-utility tool that spans from data extraction to visualization was a major milestone for the team.
What we learned
Through this project, we gained significant experience in AI-augmented development, learning how to effectively prompt and utilize AI tools to accelerate the build process. We also deepened our understanding of handling the complexities inherent in merging large, diverse codebases.
What's next for Testing
The next phase involves rigorous user testing to refine the matching algorithms and enhance the UI/UX. We plan to gather feedback from recent graduates to ensure the roadmap recommendations and skill visualizations are as intuitive and helpful as possible.
