Inspiration

5C Transport, the mobile app was designed to revolutionize transportation for students across the 5 Claremont Colleges. As international students ourselves, we understand the challenges of navigating campus and beyond without access to personal vehicles. That's why we created a solution that offers both campus and LA transport options at your fingertips.

What it does

5C Transport is a solutions to all our transport issues. With 5C Transport, students can easily locate scooters and bicycles near dorms and academic buildings for quick trips around campus. Need to get from Carnegie at Pomona to Steele Building at Scripps in 15 minutes? No problem. Just open the app, find a nearby scooter, and you're on your way. Plus, our ride-share feature allows you to share an Uber to LA, making travel more affordable and environmentally friendly.

How we built it

To create our design, we first drew the mascots of PP and CMS in Adobe Illustrator. Then, we designed our mobile app’s icon in Canva. As a group, we attended the “Intro to Figma” workshop. None of us had any experience in Figma before, but we were able to learn the basics at the workshop. Then, we watched some more tutorials about Figma online. Eventually, we were able to design our mobile app’s prototype by using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Initially when we chose the Innovator Track because we knew we wanted to create something that would help the 5C Community. We weren't quite sure what mediums we wanted to or could use to built our prototype. Thankfully, one of the workshops enlightened us about Figma and the ball started rolling from there.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud that we were able to come up and prototype our idea in such a short time frame, especially since we learned about Figma yesterday.

What we learned

We learned how to work and brain storm collaboratively in such a short time frame. We learned how to keep each other motivated by staying positive and acknowledging our accomplishments. We were initially very intimidated by the idea of a Hackathon as we thought our technical skills were not as developed as our other peers. However, we now realized we all come from different backgrounds and we all have different skill levels, so the most important thing is the respect and include all the team members' creative and technical input.
