  Overflow of Chatbox

Inspiration

Many black people have unique hair problems and are in need of specialized hair care. Black hair is integral to African Diaspora with regards to self-identity and expression.

What it does

Our app aims to provide information on how black people with Type 4 can manage their hair and not only what the best products to use are but also where to find these products.
Slogan: Healthier Glow and Shine

How I built it

We used the Bulma CSS framework to create the front-end. The IBM Watson Assistant - Chat UI chatbot was integrated into the website.

Challenges I ran into

Integrating chatbot into website was a challenge (figuring out through YouTube tutorials). Our original intention of deployment to Netlify (and/or Heroku), or creating a front-end web framework (e.g ReactJS, NuxtJS) was not completed in time.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Building a relatively functional website with Bulma has reinvented the way we think of responsive design and UI. Incredibly simple, fast, and responsive out of the box. We managed to embed the IBM Watson Chat UI into our web page for additional function and user experience.

What I learned

We learned lots about collaborating in a team and utilizing our individual strengths. We learned how to approach a given project with proper research and understanding of our chosen topic to be able to work with complex issues to solve our problem. There is much more that goes in to planning and researching a feasible project than we all expected, as the majority of our group were first-time hackers. Creating something we are proud of and knowing exactly what we wanted to achieve in a given time frame was also big aspect of our learning.

What's next for 4Tips

We are thinking on a large scale of empowerment, adding a subscription feature that allows the user access to a portal of black owned business that provide the necessary natural oils, bonnets, combs, brushes, shampoos etc. We intend to create a resource page for users to be able to quickly get access to relevant necessities without too much surfing of the web.
