Inspiration
Environmental waste – Our world is slowly dying due to the fatal effects of environmental waste. Our oceans are being poisoned, the Arctic is melting, and our trees are decaying. Inspired by this pressing issue, we set out to create a game that not only entertains but also raises awareness about environmental conservation.
What it does
Eco Hero is a mini-game where players can clean beaches and city streets, collecting litter and restoring beauty to the environment. By engaging players in fun gameplay, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility towards our planet and inspire real-world action.
How we built it
We developed Eco Hero using the Godot Engine, utilising its interface and powerful features to create engaging gameplay. Our team collaborated on designing characters, environments, and gameplay mechanics through the use of Github to work collaboratively and keep version control.
Challenges we ran into
We faced several challenges during development, including:
- Balancing gameplay to ensure it is exciting but also raises awareness of the damaged caused by waste.
- Optimizing performance to ensure smooth gameplay across different platforms.
- Completing this project within a 24 hour time schedule, despite going against more mature students.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a game that effectively combines fun with a meaningful message. We also succeeded at designing an art style that appeals to a wide audience, ranging from kids to adults, thorugh the use of pixel art,
What we learned
Through this project, we learned the value of teamwork and effective communication. We also gained valuable experience working in a time crunch, which benefitted our thinking skills and teamwork capabilities. We also learned how the hackathon experience is and it was an enjoyable time.
What's next for Eco Hero
Looking ahead, we plan to expand Eco Hero by adding new levels, challenges, and educational content. We also aim to collaborate with environmental organizations to promote the game and raise awareness about waste management and conservation efforts.
