32 fouettés is a short story I wrote some time ago, as part of a compendium of other whimsical stories. As I was getting more actively involved in using Gen Ai, I challenged myself to adapt it into a short film script instead - a documentary, simply to see if I could actually turn it into a film.

While the project grew ostensibly from the desire to turn 32 fouettés into a reality, it also presented an opportunity, an exercise to thoroughly stress test the existing, and available cloud based GEN Ai software, simply to see 'if' it would enable me in the first place. The nature of the documentary is straight forward - two talking heads, speaking and acting naturally, and authentically, while preserving total fidelity of both their likenesses and speech throughout, wrapped up in an engaging story. Which meant that I would be pushing the boundaries to their very limits.

Having shown it to many people now, both industry professionals and friends alike, many noted that they would never have known it was made almost entirely using Gen Ai. Ultimately, this is the end goal; to allow the audience to focus specifically on the characters and Lydia's story, while quickly dismissing the methods of how the film was produced.

I have learned a great deal about how to get the best out of the software. The film demonstrates what can be achieved with time, patience, creativity and dedication. I have been in the Visual Effects industry (Film and TV) for thirty years, and so I do know instinctively the perils of faux imagery and how it can be perceived by a visually savvy audience.
