Inspiration

Seeing an increase in workplace injuries, we wanted to see how we can better improve the safety in their workplace as every single life counts.

Our thought is for pharmaceutical companies to secure their resources such as their drugs from physical defilement, as well as protect their employees from workplace accidents. Companies ought to guarantee that their staffs are wearing their PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) legitimately.

Through our team's interest in artificial intelligence and other technologies, we decided on making an AI detector for PPE equipments.

What it does

Our Solution takes in an image input taken by the staff of the workplace (e.g. pharmacy technician). The image would be then processed by the AI model trained by us which detects the PPE that's essential for the task that they are doing.The model would then return the result as to what equipment is missing before they could enter/proceed to enter the workplace

How we built it

Driven by our prior experiences and inspiration, our team translates our idea into an actual web application prototype using the Django framework and YoloV5 for model training.

Challenges we ran into

There were several challenges that we ran into, especially getting the frontend development working with the backend logic. Furthermore, training of the model was hard to be done in 24h especially in fine tuning the model to meet our standards.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are successfully able to create a workable application with a model that can detect some of the equipment for the medical sector within the 24 hours.

What we learned

We learned how to properly execute and research to come out with a proper solution for our problem statement with limited resources within the 24 hours.

We also learn how to properly use YoloV5 for detection of equipment and implement it to our web application.

What's next for Carapace AI

What we have in mind for Carapace AI is for it to be implemented to different sectors such as construction ( by detecting safety equipment such as helmet,vest, etc..) as it is important that companies enforce safety not only for their resources, but also for their workers.

We envision that for it to be adapted in a real working environment, we would need to communicate with various IOT. We believe Carapace AI is the first step for personal safety & property safety
