Inspiration

Neither Irwin or I have a background in palliative care. Knowing this, we decided to seek advice from my sister, who has been a nurse for a number of years. Lorae provided us with personal insight and encouraged us to pursue a solution focusing on patient's well-being. From this advice we did the research and were saddened to discover the high propensity of mental illness in palliative patients and the vast negative effects this can play on their journey.

With this information in mind, we decided we would create an app that would provide therapeutic relief for patients in regard to their emotional/spiritual well-being.

Our main goals were to:

  • Facilitate opportunities of control in patient's lives;
  • Encourage social engagement and self-fulfilment;
  • Enable retainment of dignity and the remembrance of the authentic self.

From these goals, our app "2you" was born. With a focus on user experience, we developed a highly accessible app that can be used anyway in any situation. We want to add value to middle age individuals leaving friends and family behind, who would gain therputic benefit from virtual scrap booking and comfort from leaving behind a piece of themselves.

What it does

2You allows features include:-

  • Cross platform

  • Accessible design

  • Speech to text

  • Future messages set at designated times

  • Check up notifications

How we built it

Irwin built this app using Ionic and firebase.

Challenges we ran into

A few challenges we ran in to was the lack of accessible research available on patient experience and positive outcomes through out the palliative care process. Much of the material I came across focused on the issues that are present and did not meaningfully explore how they may be alleviated.

What's next for 2you

We see a huge benefit for 2you and would like to continue to conduct market research on how this app could better suit the needs of patients. We believe taking their voices into consideration will enable the creation of something truly meaningful and beneficial for our health community.
