Inspiration
Inspired by the recent film of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this year, our team decided to make a 2D game regarding the theme of spaceships and stars.
What it does

- Setting: Space
- Game story: You are riding on a spaceship and trying to survive in the huge meteor rain (and alien attacks!)
- Game modes: Single player and Multiplayer (2-Player Cooperation mode)
- Genre: 2D Tilt-based Arcade Game
Aim: Survival (Score in terms of survival time)
Random item pickups There are item pickups occurring randomly, with different probabilities of getting several buffs and debuffs (Just 30% for a debut effect! So grab them!):
Buff: Freeze enemy
Buff: Shield
Buff: Invincibility
Buff: Clear screen
Debuff: Slow down character
Debuff: Freeze character
Debuff: Enlarge character
Debuff: Inverse direction
Enemy objects Touching enemy objects would kill the character immediately. Types of enemy:
Asteroids (Flying in different speeds)
UFOs (Moves randomly across the screen at high speed. Can be killed by hitting the "bull's eye")
How we built it
Rocketeers is built by Unity Game Engine.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge that we have encountered is the synchronisation of screens in the multiplayer mode. We have spent hours to fix the bugs. Moreover, we had problems making the character rotating not in an awkward way. There are a lot of item effects and functions that we have tried out, which is also very time-consuming.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overcoming the numerous challenges that we have encountered regarding screen synchronisation and character rotation is one of the major accomplishments that we are proud of. Moreover, its the first time that we actually cooperated to create a game in less than 1 day. Actually managing to experience a whole game development life cycle (including game design) in a day was a very fruitful experience.
What we learned
Fast debugging skills, the usage of Github in a group, and having fun in creating games together.
What's next for 2D Mobile Game - Rocketeers
We would like to develop more game modes, make the movements more precise and natural, and develop a greater variety of items drops and enemy objects, possibly a boss stage.
