Calandy: Simplifying Event Management
The inconvenience of a broken experience inspired us to create an application for attending and managing events. The frustration of not having a proper way to store and organize upcoming events, especially as a professional or aspiring networker, is truly disappointing and can lead to many missed opportunities.
Calandy simplifies this experience by allowing you to scan a poster—whether it be for networking events, parties, ceremonies, etc.—and seamlessly add it to your calendar. Additionally, it helps users discover and attend local and online events hosted by others, as well as create their own events.
Calandy is built using Kotlin, with a proposed backend written in Go. Some of the challenges we faced included decision-making, prioritization, and a few technical errors. However, as a team, we tackled these challenges and successfully introduced the visual concept of the app. Due to time constraints and limited deployment experience, we couldn’t deploy the backend, but we are proud to have created something that addresses a real problem.
This hackathon taught us valuable lessons in personal and professional development—from time and team management to enhancing our technical skills in Kotlin, Android Studio, UI organization, and AI-assisted code generation.
